So first off, I want to say sorry for the lack of pictures, for a lot of you that actually look at this blog reading is not your strong suit, Roger, Alex, Tommy LOL. but I figured an update was a good idea as a few things have happened.
The Iowa trip was awesome, but about 3 miles into the ride I found a log ride (Skinny) and didn't notice that half way it narrowed and that a tree was in the way of my entirely too wide bars. I made it past the tree, and the narrow part, but right at the end my wheel slipped off the log and I had a yard sale. The Bike was fine but some massive black marks are on the rear triangle and I am not sure if it's the base coat showing or if the frame picked it off the log, either wany no biggie AL doesn't rust and for God sakes it's a Mnt. bike, scratches show I actually ride... now for me the helmet now has a bit more of a crack and my hip hit so hard I almost peed a little. it's tweaked but I can walk but the rest of the ride was awful and I bowed out at lunch when 4 beers and advil didn't make it feel any better.
I am in need of some time on the single speed cross bike to get back in shape. the IA trails were all climbing and not much down hill. nothing super tecnical but a few spots I walked because it was the first ride of the year, I am out of shape, and I already wrecked in the early stages of the day. I am very out of shape, and I fear that I will be regearing all the single speeds for this season as I am moving to Cali on the 25th. I need to get my legs and lungs back, and that means more time on pavement just to get back in the groove of things. I have about 2 weeks to get in good shape as I am driving from MN to CA and will be ridding the following
1) Boulder Colorado
I have a buddy that tells me there are great new additions to the old tracks we use to run
2) Fruita Colorado
Mary and I are going to try and catch a soda and a ride with BRose of Shockspital this dude might be the coolest suspension and brake mech ever. he has a shop in Minneapolis and will be missed, mostly because he puts up with me and fixes my bikes when I can't.
3) Moab Utah
Mary has never been, and I haven't been back since I was in HS, so we gotta hit Moab since we are driving by, I was thinking so slick rock, and shorter loops as this is jsut a stop.
4) St. George Utah
An old mentor of mine was just here and says this might be the best single track he has ever ridden, all new and very few ridders. I asked around in Minneapolis, and no one has ever ridden here, Sounds like we won't have to deal with crowds
5) Boulder Canyon outside Las Vegas Nevada
Never been, and have seen all the pics from demo rides at InterBike. Looks fun, and again it's only 1 hour off the drive to Cali, so we are in!
6) Santa Barbara CA
Mary lived here for a little while in 2008 and wants to get some ridding in up there as well as visiting her friend Marco, great guy.
Then to LA where I will start working the following Monday. I can't wait, it's a REAL JOB working for the Man, but you know what? He pays well. I am hoping that as soon as I get into working for this group I will have the ability to find a PT job working with bikes somewhere.
anyway I will update more as I know more, until then look at my the post below and be jealous! the BMC take 2 is up and will be running today. hopefully I don't crash this one into another garage,
